Life amongst the paperbarks...

I pulled up at the King Edward river at sunset after a massive storm had just rolled through. The sky to the north was black and the sun was hidden behind the clouds creating this soft diffused orange light and crazy colours. I've never seen anything like it. It was pretty surreal. I was almost tempted to desaturate the images so they looked a little less artificial. These are straight out of the camera.

I'm so used to being at these places with 20 other people that sometimes I find myself looking around to see where everybody has gone. It's a funny feeling. It's almost like a post-apocalyptic world and no-one bothered to tell me.

When I was finished taking a few snaps I decided the only thing that could possibly make the day better would be a swim in the pitch black. Only three things were visible. The paperbarks silhouetted against the sky. Lightning flashing in the distance and fireflies along the river's edge. These are the moments.
